Buffalo City Council Denies 99-Year Lease for Housing Solutions Project – Sheridan Media

A plan to lease city-owned property to developer Housing Solutions, LLC to build a 26-unit feasible housing project has been denied by the Buffalo City Council.

The lease was reviewed at their meeting Tuesday night, after discussions in favor of the project from Jerry Spiering, who initiated the idea, and city planner/building inspector Terry Asay, as well as those opposed to the project.

Opponents of the project, while understanding the need for affordable housing in Buffalo, cited the project’s location, potential congestion in the area due to development, and the 99-year lease on the city-owned property where it would be built.

Councillor John Camino said he knew there was a need for accessible housing, but he was not in favour of it. proposal.

Councilor Scott Madsen also opposed the 99-year lease on the city land, saying the developer had done similar projects in other communities but had purchased the land they were built on.

The council voted to reject the city’s 99-year lease on the property.
