Atlanta Remains in Top 10 Major U.S. Cities for Coworking Spaces in Q2

According to CoworkingCafe, Atlanta ranked 7th and 8th, respectively, among the 25 largest U.S. cities in terms of coworking spaces and coworking square footage in Q2. This reflects an increase in the number of local coworking spaces and a decrease in total coworking square footage.

Manhattan, Los Angeles and Chicago take the top three spots in terms of coworking space, while Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth and Manhattan take the top spots in terms of the number of coworking spaces, CoworkingCafe said, citing data from sister company Yardi Matrix.

In Atlanta, the number of coworking spaces increased 5% from the previous quarter, from 216 to 226, while the total square footage of coworking spaces in the city decreased 0.3%, from 4.37 million square feet to 4.36 million square feet. At the same time, the average square footage of Atlanta coworking spaces fell 5%, from 20,240 square feet to 19,300 square feet.

Nationally, the number of coworking spaces increased 7% in the second quarter to 7,041 locations. In terms of square footage, total coworking space increased 2% to 127.7 million square feet, while the average square footage per location decreased 4% to 18,133 square feet.

In terms of coworking memberships in Atlanta, virtual office prices dropped from $176 per month to $148, while dedicated desks dropped from $294 to $289 and open workspaces remained stable at $139.

Nationally, median rates for virtual offices, open plan workspaces and dedicated desks were $119, $149 and $300, respectively, at the end of the second quarter.
