NEW BUFFALO — The New Buffalo Farmed & Forged Market debuted Thursday, May 30. with a participation of more than 650 buyers.

According to Elisha Taylor of the New Buffalo Business Association (which sponsors the weekly event), “Opening Day was a success and many people from the community came out to support this event.”

She added that two sellers even sold their products.

There were over 30 vendors selling everything from fresh produce to cotton candy and popcorn to locally made jewelry and home goods. Live music from Don Savoie and food from the Rico Suave group food truck were enjoyed by participants.

Taylor attributes the success of the new market to Mandy Krickhahn and her group “The Collective” who worked hard to add new vendors and community support.

According to Kirckhahn, “We received incredible feedback from buyers and sellers about their love for the event and we also raised $107 for our nonprofit beneficiary, the SNAP Community Match Fund, which matched purchases by Bridge Card up to $20/market for SNAP Users.

Taylor said: “June’s beneficiary will be Harbor Country Pride, and in July Neighbor by Neighbor will be featured at the weekly event. Shoppers will be able to make donations at the information booth during the market.

When asked what the community can expect over the next few weeks at Farmed & Forged New Buffalo, Krickhahn responded, “Every third Thursday of the month, we will bring in local artists to showcase their work with interactive works of art as well as interactive works of art. live demos from the artists. Additionally, many downtown stores will stay open later so shoppers can attend the market and then explore local stores in the neighborhood.

New Buffalo Farmed and Forged will take place every Thursday until September 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot at Whitaker and Merchant streets.
