Teen arrested for stabbing brother in Encinitas home

The Sheriff’s Department said 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez died after he was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by his 17-year-old brother during a fight.

ENCINITAS, Calif. – A teenager has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his brother during an altercation in Encinitas.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez died after he was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by his 17-year-old brother following an argument.

Sheriff’s deputies said the stabbing occurred around 10 p.m. on May 11 in the 300 block of Sprucewood Drive in Encinitas after the two brothers got into a fight outside the home.

During the fight, Mozo-Hernandez was stabbed in the stomach by his 17-year-old brother.

First responders rendered aid and transported Mozo-Hernandez to the hospital. According to the sheriff’s department, Mozo-Hernandez was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Mozo-Hernandez’s brother, a juvenile who has not been publicly identified, was located by authorities a half-mile away near LA Fitness.

The 17-year-old was arrested for murder and booked into the juvenile detention center, the sheriff’s department said.
