USA Today suggests the Houston Texans will host a prime-time game in Week 1

The Houston Texans are going to get the most attention in the NFL next season. A season ago, they were one of the most exciting teams to watch, with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud being an emerging star. They had some exciting wide receivers. They had a first year head coach in DeMeco Ryans. They were fun.

Heading into year two with Ryans as head coach and Stroud at center, the team is ready to take a big step forward. They had a good offseason, acquiring Stefon Diggs, Joe Mixon and having a strong 2024 NFL Draft. They are going to be as fun as last season while being more talented.

With the reveal of the upcoming schedule, USA Today has been pushing for the Texans to get a primetime game in Week 1.

The defending Super Bowl champions will face off on Thursday night. The Philadelphia Eagles will play Friday night in Brazil. That leaves two additional primetime slots available for the NFL’s opening weekend, as USA Today alluded to.

“That leaves Houston open for one of two remaining opening weekend standalone slots,” USA Today wrote. “Detroit is no longer a stranger to attention after last season’s appearance in the NFC Championship Game. An inter-conference showdown between competitors is an easy way to acclimate to the new season.”

That makes sense. Both of these teams are thriving and ready for big seasons again. With both teams being NFC playoff teams a season ago, expectations will be placed on both teams. Watching them face off in Week 1 to get a feel for where both teams are at would be exciting.

Regardless, the Texans will be a team with plenty of interest around them. Whether it’s a primetime game or not, fans will be glued to the TV to see this new Houston team with its new star power and returning talent.
