Today sun and isolated rain, even wetter days ahead

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Scattered showers are expected today, but humidity and rain chances will increase toward the end of the week.

  • Wednesday: Initially some fog, then mainly sunny. This afternoon a few showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible. Maximum temperatures between 35 and 35 degrees.
  • Wednesday night: A few thunderstorms in the evening, later partly cloudy. Lows around 21 degrees.
  • Thursday: Partly cloudy with a few showers in the morning, becoming heavier in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures around 30 degrees.
  • Advanced: Another unsettled day is forecast for Friday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms this weekend.

Happy Wednesday!! Our Wednesday started pleasantly with (temporarily) slightly drier air. Some fog is possible in the early morning, with plenty of sunshine expected in the morning. In the afternoon, some clouds will form, developing into some widely scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm. With the sun, temperatures will rise to 35 to 40 degrees today. Some rain areas may persist until the evening, with partial clearing forecast for the night.

But all good things must come to an end. A nearby stationary front, increasing moisture and a moderately strong disturbance are increasing the chance of rain for the end of the week. A few showers are even possible in the morning on Thursday, and showers and thunderstorms become more likely in the afternoon. It looks like Friday will be another unsettled day with a good chance of rain. The chance of rain could drop a bit over the weekend.

The tropics are pretty quiet right now. We’re seeing some weak westward moving tropical waves in the Atlantic and Caribbean, but nothing significant. We’ll be watching the eastern Atlantic and West Africa closely in the coming weeks, as they tend to get busier this time of year.
