Cyclist struck and killed by vehicle in St. Claude neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is dead after he was struck and killed by a vehicle in the St. Claude neighborhood, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD officers said they received a call around 10:48 p.m. that a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle at the corner of North Claiborne Avenue and Clouet Street.


Responding officers said the driver of a gray or silver SUV was traveling south on Clouet Street when he allegedly struck the bicyclist and drove off.

After the accident, police said the driver drove west on North Claiborne Avenue, over the bridge and then in an unknown direction.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency services.

No further information is available, but the investigation is ongoing as blood and alcohol test results are pending.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after an autopsy is performed and the family is notified.
