Pharmaceutical giant to open first Atlanta office in new tower above luxury mall

The company that makes Botox is planting a flag in Buckhead with a new office at One Phipps Plaza.

Chicago-based AbbVie is launching an Atlanta expansion at the 13-story, 365,000-square-foot One Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, according to people familiar with the transaction. Bisnow.

The Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company has signed a 20,000-square-foot lease in the office portion of Simon Property Group’s Phipps Plaza redevelopment.

Sara Barnes, head of business intelligence at Avison Young, also confirmed the deal, which was signed in May, based on the company’s database. Avison Young was not involved in the deal.

CBRE executive vice presidents Jeff Keppen and Chris Port, along with senior vice president Nicole Goldsmith, represented Simon in the transaction. Representatives for Simon, AbbVie and CBRE did not return calls seeking comment.

At One Phipps Plaza, which opened less than two years ago, AbbVie joins Novelis, which moved its headquarters from the nearby Two Alliance Center, as well as Goldman Sachs and Resurgens Technology Partners, according to a CoStar report obtained by Bisnow.

According to CoStar, the tower is almost half leased.

In recent years, Simon has added offices, a Nobu hotel and a multi-story Life Time fitness center to the mall.

AbbVie reported total assets of more than $11.7 billion last year and last week announced plans to acquire Celsius Therapeutics, which is developing a drug to treat inflammatory bowel disease, for $250 million, BioPharma Dive reported. The company also announced it has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to expand the use of its drug Epkinly, co-developed with Genmab, to treat follicular lymphoma.

At the time of publication, it was unclear what operations AbbVie would house at One Phipps Plaza.
