Tyson Jost signs one-year deal with Carolina Hurricanes – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — The Carolina Hurricanes are adding another UND forward to their organization.

Former UND center Tyson Jost signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, marking the opening of the NHL’s free agency period.

Jost played with the Buffalo Sabres for the past two seasons.

“Tyson is a reliable forward who can play multiple roles,” Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky said. “His versatility will help us strengthen our roster for next season.”

The Hurricanes, who lost in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, are making roster changes.

Up front, they lost Teuvo Teravainen (Chicago), Stefan Noesen (New Jersey) and Jake Guentzel (Pittsburgh) in free agency, while bringing in Jost, William Carrier (Vegas) and Eric Robinson (Buffalo).

Jost will join former UND forward Jackson Blake on the Hurricanes. They also have the rights to UND sophomore forward Jayden Perron and former UND forward Michael Emerson, who transferred to Merrimack.

The Colorado Avalanche selected Jost with the 10th overall pick in 2016.

He played one season at UND in 2016-17, scoring 16 goals and 35 points in 33 games. He signed with Colorado at the end of that season and immediately made his NHL debut that spring.

Jost played 456 regular season NHL games for the Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and Sabres, scoring 57 goals and 140 points.

Last season, he scored three goals and six points in 43 games with the Sabres. At the end of the season, the Sabres assigned Jost to their top minor league affiliate, Rochester. Jost scored four goals and 14 points in 25 games with Rochester.
