Near-miss for Monaco Grand Prix photographers after F1 three-car incident

At the Monaco Grand Prix, nearby F1 photographers narrowly escaped serious injury after a dramatic three-car crash on the first lap of the race.

Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg all suffered irreparable damage on the first lap in Monaco.

Perez suffered the most damage after he got into Hülkenberg’s path and into the barrier, completely destroying his Red Bull.

After the race, footage emerged showing a rain of debris from his car littering the track and the section where several photographers were standing.

A photographer was taken to hospital but released after an examination due to concerns about possible injury.

The Mirror reported that the FIA confirmed that the above photographer did not suffer any “open wounds”.

It was classified as a racing accident, especially because it occurred on the first lap.

Magnussen tried to ride side by side with Perez on the exit from Sainte Devote.

Perez did not adjust his line – nor was he obliged to – and as the gap to Magnussen narrowed, the two collided.

After the race, Magnussen said there was nothing he could do to prevent the race.

“From my perspective, a good chunk of my front was next to Perez’s butt, and when he hit the wall, I got pulled into the wall and pushed into him,” he said.

“I trusted him to give me space because I was there and it’s not a corner you brake into, just a small bend on the straight.”

On the other hand, Perez said that Magnussen needs to perform better.
