China suspends tariff exemptions for many food imports from Taiwan

BEIJING (Reuters) – China will lift tariff exemptions on 34 agricultural import products from Taiwan, including fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, effective Sept. 25, the Chinese Finance Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry said that duties on these items would be imposed in accordance with existing regulations.

“Taiwan’s unilateral implementation of discriminatory measures such as bans and restrictions on the export of mainland products has seriously hampered economic and trade cooperation between both sides of the Taiwan Strait,” it said.
