“Excessive heat” on Tuesday; unsettled, cooler weather at the end of the week

ALARM DAY TUESDAY: The heat adds extra pressure and will likely result in “excessive” temperatures for a few hours. 21 degrees in the morning, then 35 degrees – feels like between 41 and 44 degrees, with additional humidity also added. Be careful in the heat – remember to drink hydrating fluids, take breaks in the shade or indoors, and also keep an eye on sensitive groups of people and pets. Sudden downpours may occur in the afternoon hours, but it will remain mostly dry and hot. After sunset, a few more showers could move south with an approaching front with lows between 21 and 27 degrees.

WEDNESDAY: As the front approaches and the upper ridge breaks up, humidity is expected to increase – leading to more clouds and a chance of rain by mid-week. Highs will be in the 30s and 35s – the heat index will still be in the 38s and 41s. Occasional showers may be added as the front slowly settles into the area. Rain chances will tend to increase after sunset, with lows in the 21s.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The front is slowly moving into northern Mississippi, keeping our southern areas at risk for increased rain chances through the end of the week. Highs will drop back to 80 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the week and over the weekend. The front will remain close into next week, so chances for scattered rain and thunderstorms will remain part of the forecast for the longer term.
