WCPO monitors “official intelligence” related to Steve Raleigh’s family

The general manager of WCPO-TV responded late Friday afternoon to a viral video involving the family of meteorologist Steve Raleigh.

The video, which made the rounds on social media this week, shows two elderly people lying injured on the ground in the parking lot of the Montgomery Inn Boathouse after a verbal altercation with Raleigh’s family.

WCPO-TV posted this statement from Jeff Brogan, Vice President and General Manager of Channel 9, on its Facebook page at 5:30 p.m.:

“We are aware of the incident involving Steve Raleigh’s family. It remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against anyone at this time. Steve has shared his side of the incident with our leadership. His account is consistent with the police report, which does not mention his name, and with what we have reviewed on video. The video does not show the incident from beginning to end. We will continue to monitor official findings.”

In less than two hours, the post had more than 1,000 comments and was shared 180 times.

By Friday evening, Raleigh had deleted all of his social media accounts.

The video was taken on Saturday, June 22. Raleigh and his wife Julie — the daughter of retired Hamilton County Sheriff/Judge/Prosecutor Simon Leis Jr. — are seen in the video in the parking lot after an incident. The woman filming on her phone says, “Call 911,” after the elderly woman is seen on the ground bleeding from her head.

According to CityBeat, the Cincinnati police report said Raleigh’s son Carter was “involved in an accident that escalated into an assault” in the Boathouse parking lot on June 22. Leis owned the vehicle driven by Carter Raleigh, City Beat said, citing the police report.

WVXU has reached out to Cincinnati Police but has not yet reviewed the police report.

Raleigh was hired as chief meteorologist in July 2005 and was absent from Channel 9’s early evening news. Forecasts were made by Cameron Hardin.

Raleigh and his wife actively raise funds for nonprofits in the Greater Cincinnati area. Their favorite project is Madi’s House in Mount Airy, which was founded after the death of their daughter Madison in 2019. They have three other children: Carter, Kyle and Chelsea.
