Houston Astros plan to make interesting move ahead of MLB trade deadline

What appeared to be a lost season for the Houston Astros has taken a different turn in recent weeks.

After starting the season 28-35, Houston has won 15 of its last 21 games. With that record down a bit, the Astros are 10-1 in their last 11 outings.

Those major struggles to open the campaign have led to rumors that Houston will sell assets before the MLB trade deadline later this month.

General manager Dana Brown rejected the idea as his Astros struggled to start the season.

“I don’t see any chance we’re going to be sellers. I think the team is too good. If guys start turning the page, good things are going to happen,” Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown said last May.

Houston was 12-27 at the time of those comments. It’s 16-8 since. It’s arguably the MLB version of Nostradamus.

Houston Astros Expect to Be Aggressive Buyers Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline

“This is a pretty interesting group, and they’re not going to hold back at the Deadline,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday. “They’re going to try because they’ve done it many times under Jim Crane in the past.”

Obviously, the rotation will be a targeted area. Current Astros starters Jose Urquidy, Cristian Javier and JP France are out for the season.

Houston has also made starter picks before MLB’s in-season trade deadline in the past. That included acquiring Justin Verlander last season.

Several veteran starters could make sense for the Astros. Among them are Cal Quantrill, Jack Flaherty, Yusei Kikuchi, Aaron Civale and Garrett Crochet.
