MATCH PREVIEW: Houston Dash Open Homestand in two games with Pride Night

HOUSTON (June 14, 2024) – THE Houston Dash return to Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday, June 15 to host Angel City FC for Pride Night. The first 2,500 fans to enter the venue on Saturday will receive a Pride-themed crossbody bag, courtesy of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Saturday’s game marks the second meeting of the season between the Dash and Angel City. Houston earned three points in Southern California earlier this season following a last-minute goal from defender Paige Nielsen. The defenseman was traded from Angel City to Houston in April before the trade deadline. Houston has recorded three clean sheets since Nielsen’s arrival and currently sits three points out of a playoff spot.

The Dash are looking to bounce back from a 2-0 road loss to Racing Louisville FC last Friday. Five players who joined their national teams during the FIFA window took to the field last week. Jane Campbell, Barbara Olivieri, Sarah Puntigam and Tarciane started the match and Diana Ordóñez came on in the second half. Houston was without Ramona Bachmann, who also appeared on international duty, due to a leg injury.

Campbell currently leads the league in saves with 59 and after 12 games, she is averaging five saves per game. She finished with two last Friday against Racing Louisville, her lowest total since the last meeting with Angel City on May 12. The goalkeeper has made three saves in three matches this season and set a new club record for saves in a single match on May 5. when she finished with 12 saves against the Kansas City Current. She is currently tied for the best goals-against average in the league and has four clean sheets this season.

The all-time series is currently tied at 1-1-3 (WLD), with the first three matches ending in a draw. A win Saturday would give Houston its first home triumph against Angel City and improve its record to 2-1-3 against the California team. Houston looks to build on its recent momentum at home following a 3-0 win over the North Carolina Courage before the FIFA window and a 1-1 draw against KC Current on May 5.

Angel City is looking to end a four-game winless streak that began May 12 after losing to the Dash at BMO Stadium. Angel City lost 2-1 on the road to NJ/NY Gotham FC after the international break. Their last point came in a 0–0 home draw against San Diego Wave FC on May 23.

The Dash will close out this two-game homestand on Saturday, June 22 when they host San Diego at Shell Energy Stadium.

Saturday’s match will be broadcast on ION (TV Guide) and fans can listen to the match in Spanish on Deportes Nation (website).
