Water main break leaves much of northwest Atlanta without water – 95.5 WSB

ATLANTA — A major water main break has left customers without water in much of northwest Atlanta.

A 32-inch water main broke at the intersection of Joseph E. Boone and James Boulevard. P. Brawley Walk.

The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM) said impacts from the main break are widespread and affecting downtown Atlanta. Some customers are without water and others have low water pressure.

Officials said repairs during the break would begin at 5 p.m. to give them time to assemble their crews and give homeowners and businesses time to prepare for not having water for an indefinite period of time.

“Service has been temporarily interrupted, impacting area residents, businesses and fire hydrants,” DWM officials said in a statement.

DWM also reports that another water main failed in East Atlanta, in the area of ​​2922 Glenwood Ave.

“Crews are on scene and working aggressively to repair the 32-inch water main affecting the service area,” officials added. “DWM will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

It is unclear when water will be restored or how many customers were affected.

City Hall has been closed to the public and employees are leaving, according to City Councilman Michael Julian Bond. The Georgia World Congress Center was also affected by the water outage, although it is unclear whether the complex planned to close its doors.

The Georgia Aquarium is closed for the day. Officials said the water main break did not impact pet systems, only impacting guest restrooms and similar areas. Guests who had tickets are asked to call (404) 581-4000 for assistance.

The College Football Hall of Fame also closed its doors for the day.

Grady Memorial Hospital has canceled all elective and non-emergency procedures and appointments.

The Fulton County Board of Health is closing its 10 Park Place, Neighborhood Union, Vital Records and Oak Hill locations due to low water pressure.
