Parents of a girl who died in an accident speak out and talk about organ donation

The parents of a five-year-old girl who died when a swing became wrapped around her neck say it is a comfort to them to know that a part of her life lives on and helped save lives.

Aurora Masters was playing outside her Fort Collins home earlier this month when she got caught on the swing, her great aunt previously told Fox affiliate KDVR-TV.

The young girl was taken to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, where she died on May 13, according to a GoFundMe campaign for the family.

Krystal and Tom Masters told NBC affiliate KUSA they donated their daughter’s organs in the hope of saving other lives.

“We know Aurora’s heart is beating somewhere,” Krystal said, and her husband Tom added, “It really helps me to know that.”

Krystal told KUSA that Aurora was outside for less than 15 minutes on May 8 before a neighbor told her something was wrong.

“I saw her in the tree with the swing around her neck,” the mother explained.

Aurora’s organs were donated to the Donor Alliance, which, according to its website, “facilitates the process of organ and tissue donation for transplant throughout Colorado and most of Wyoming.”

“I’m proud of my daughter,” Krystal told KUSA. “I was already proud, but she’s still giving.”

In a series of updates on GoFundMe, a family member remembered Aurora as a “ray of sunshine” – and for “her ninja bravery.”

The loved one added, “Our hearts are broken and we continue the journey to honor and celebrate her worldly gifts.”

A church service will be held on Saturday, June 8th.
