One dead and one seriously injured in a car accident in Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A multi-vehicle crash in Calhoun County left one dead and one seriously injured Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. and involved a 61-year-old man from Marianna, a 48-year-old man from Blountstown and a 57-year-old man from Lakeland.

Authorities said the Marianna man was driving north on State Road 71 when he attempted to turn right, causing his trailer filled with logs to fall into the southbound lanes.

The front of that vehicle collided with the Blountstown man’s vehicle.

The last vehicle tried to avoid the first two vehicles and came into contact with the tree trunks on the road. The driver suffered no injuries.

Authorities say the 61-year-old Marianna man has died and the Blounstown man has serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County EMS, Gulf County EMS, Scotts Ferry Fire Department and Survival Flight 21.
