Atlanta Braves News: Injury updates, Pierce Johnson return, more

The Braves got rained out again on Saturday, but we got plenty of news on various injuries around the roster. Pierce Johnson returned from the IL, which was expected but still nice to see after the initial diagnosis of “elbow inflammation” seemed potentially much more concerning than a short stint on the IL. Elsewhere, Travis d’Arnaud appears to have avoided a concussion and will benefit from a few days off, but will be available as a substitute. Sean Murphy is close, but not quite ready, as he is expected to leave for rehabilitation starting Tuesday. Austin Riley remains out with side strains and has yet to swing a bat or set a clear timetable for returning, but still hopes to avoid the IL.

Pierce Johnson returned to the active roster from the IL, while Jackson Stephens was outrighted to Gwinnett, freeing up space for him.

Austin Riley still hasn’t swung a bat but also still hopes to avoid a stint on the IL, although he remains evasive on a return date. Meanwhile, Travis d’Arnaud is enjoying a few days off but is expected to be fine after leaving Friday’s match feeling dizzy.

Saturday’s game was rained out and postponed to a Monday doubleheader, continuing the strange schedule of this four-game Friday-Monday series.
