Man convicted of raping minors

The Alexandra District Court sentenced Muzi Kwanda Langa (37) to life imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old in 2019.

The accused in this matter was accused of two counts of rape for penetrating the victim twice in 2019.

He used to call the victim and her friends to come and wash dishes for him. The first incident took place when Langa sent the complainant’s friend to buy him cigarettes. While she was away, she raped the young girl.

He pleaded no contest throughout the trial, but prosecutor Percy Ramushu, representing the state, presented strong evidence that led to his conviction. Ramushu also submitted a victim impact report and a pre-sentence report from the probation officer.

Regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (Gauteng Division, Johannesburg), Phindi Mjonondwane, said: “Judge Hannelie Banks agreed with the prosecution and found him guilty as calculated. The public prosecutor argued for the minimum sentence And The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and declared him unfit to own a firearm. The court also ordered his name to be provided to be registered registered in the sex offenders register. Looking forward, the NPA reaffirms its commitment to combating gender-based violence and continues to work tirelessly to create a society in which all people can live free from fear and harm.”
