Bengaluru woman sentenced to 20 years in Pocso case | News from India

BENGALURU: A 28-year-old speech therapist, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl at her training centre in Bengaluru in 2022, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 75,000. Special Judge NM Ramesh announced the verdict on Friday. convict was immediately relocated to Bengaluru Central Jail.
The mother had brought her child to the centre for speech therapy. The therapist started giving classes three days a week. During the class, she sexually abused the child in mid-June 2022. At first, the girl kept it to herself. But when she started having health problems, she told her mother everything, said public prosecutor P. Krishnaveni.
The therapist was arrested on June 24, 2022, when the mother complained to the police. She was remanded to Bengaluru Central Jail on the same day. After spending 71 days in jail, she was released on bail in September 2022.
