Houston Astros draft pick Bryce Boettcher will play the 2024 football season with Oregon before beginning his professional baseball career

The Houston Astros turned to the Pacific Northwest in the 13th round, selecting Bryce Boettcher out of Oregon. Boettcher plays several sports, obviously baseball, then with the head coach Dan Lanning on the field. Usually, an immediate decision must be made between the two sports.

Boettcher will still have the luxury of playing at least one more year of football. Boettcher will play the 2024 season with Oregon before officially committing to baseball full time, Astros scouting director Cam Pendino said Tuesday.

No contract agreement has yet been reached between Houston and Boettcher. If the deal is completed, Boettcher will make his first minor league appearance in spring training with the Astros.

“Astros scouting director Cam Pendino said 13th-round pick Bryce Boettcher will play football for Oregon this fall before beginning his professional baseball career,” The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reported via X. “Assuming he signs, Boettcher would report to minor league spring training next year.”
