“Out of fear I have…”: Accused in Porsche accident in Pune submits “general” 300-word essay on road safety

Pune Porsche accident: The 17-year-old driver accused of being involved in the recent car accident involving a Porsche filed a road safety essay in the juvenile court on July 3, Wednesday.

“He wrote that he fled out of fear before being caught by passersby, instead of immediately going to the police and informing them about the accident,” HT quoted sources as saying.

According to the letter, he tried to flee the scene of the accident to avoid terrible consequences, sources at the juvenile court told HT.

The tragic incident that took the lives of two software developers in Pune earlier this year was one of the key elements required to meet the 17-year-old’s bail conditions.

“The essay is very general, making it difficult to assess the youth’s emotional state,” the JJB source noted.

The essay reportedly contains guidelines on what to do in case of a traffic accident, as well as some rules on road safety. The source said, HT that the text lacks any reference to the accident and the victims.

Sources indicate that the teenager mentioned the importance of providing assistance to accident victims in his essay.

In the early hours of May 19, the minor son of Vishal Agrawal, a well-known real estate developer and owner of Brahma Realty and Infrastructure, was driving his father’s unregistered Porsche Taycan at 150 km/h.

Under the influence of alcohol, he tragically hit two persons – Aneesh Awadhia, 24, and Ashwini Koshta, 24 – who were riding a motorcycle in Kalyaninagar. Vishal Agrawal and his father are in police custody for tampering with the youth’s blood samples.

He was three months shy of his 18th birthday when the incident occurred and was released on bail by the juvenile court hours after the accident. The incident had sparked public outcry and suspicion, with many accusing the juvenile court of treating the teenager leniently because of his social standing and political connections.

The bail conditions included the submission of an essay on road safety and the obligation to spend 15 days with the traffic police and observe various traffic rules.

Deputy Police Commissioner Rohidas Pawar informed HT that the police are prepared to comply with the court order regarding traffic surveillance of the young person, but have not yet been contacted by him.
