Dangerous heat continues, Category 5 Beryl is being tracked

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – Today is going to be dangerously hot again, and there is a heat warning in place with heat index values ​​up to 115!

Today a FIRST ALERT measure is in effect due to the heat warning, otherwise there will be a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 percent chance of showers/thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Heat index values ​​will drop somewhat on Wednesday and Independence Day and hopefully we will not need another heat warning.

In the tropics, Hurricane Beryl has reached Category 5 strength, this early in Atlantic history! It is expected to weaken further toward the Gulf and downgrade to a tropical storm when it makes landfall in either Mexico or extreme southern Texas.

In other parts of the tropics, the probability of 96L developing is now low, which is good news.
