Houston Texans’ Will Anderson Jr. Reveals Thoughts on Danielle Hunter: ‘He’s Unreal’

Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans spent his rookie year playing alongside Jonathan Greenard while developing a close relationship with the veteran defensive end. They combined for 19.5 sacks and appeared poised to form a dynamic defensive duo under coach DeMeco Ryans for the foreseeable future.

However, the duo lasted one season. Greenard signed a three-year, $72.0 million contract to join the Minnesota Vikings. His release in March led the Texans to pair Anderson with All-Pro defensive end Danielle Hunter.

Anderson recently joined The Rich Eisen Show, where he shared his thoughts on playing alongside Hunter for the 2024 season.

“He’s unreal – he’s supported us so much already,” Anderson said. “He’s so smart. He knows a lot about the game and the pass rush. He’s very talented. His character speaks for itself. He’s always willing to help the kids. He’s taught us so much since he’s been there, I’m excited to play alongside him.

Hunter signed a two-year contract worth $49 million, $48 million guaranteed, with his hometown team. He recorded a career-high 16.5 sacks during the 2023 season, which marked his fifth career year with 10.0 sacks or more. After entering the league as the Vikings’ third-round pick in 2015 (88th overall), Hunter recorded 87.5 career sacks.

“Teams will have to decide — he’s a guy who gets 10-plus sacks every year,” Anderson said. “It’ll be fun. I think we’ll be able to wreak a lot of havoc. I’m looking forward to going to war with him.”
