Police believe the attack was targeted

A promising Boxing Talent was shot and killed in Baltimore on June 17. Local police described the incident as a targeted attack but declined to provide further details about the incident.

Isiah Oludayo Olugbemi was found late Monday evening at 9:45 p.m. ET by police with gunshot wounds in Anne Arundel Countybefore he was taken to the hospital, where he unfortunately did not survive the damage to his body.

Olugbemi He was also a two-time All-American, a Junior Olympic gold medalist, a two-time Open Regional champion, and captured the National Golden Gloves crown for the third time in his career with three SD wins.

The man in his mid-20s was an aspiring boxer who had recently become national heavyweight champion for the third time and was looking to make a career in a country known for producing fearsome fighters.

“TO THE DMV BOXING WORLD,” DMV Boxing Legends said in a statement on social media. “We have been informed that our only male 2024 National Golden Gloves Champion, Isaiah Olugbemi, was sadly killed last night by gun violence in Anne Arundel County.”

“We express our condolences to his family. May his ancestors welcome him with open arms. ASE”

His death comes months after another boxer was shot in the same state in November. On this occasion Anwar Wingate had attempted to protect himself during an armed robbery, but was shot during the next robbery after being attacked.

The two are among roughly 500 people shot in Maryland each year as gun deaths continue to rise, increasing 36% between 2010 and 2019, while the national average saw a 17% increase over the same period.
