Here’s what’s open and closed in Houston on June 16

Many businesses and government agencies will close their doors on June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth public holiday. Juneteenth marks the day Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay on June 19, 1865, to bring freedom to more than 250,000 enslaved black people in Texas.

Here’s an overview of what will be closed or open on June 16.

The Federal Reserve recognizes Juneteenth as one of the holidays celebrated by the agency. So banks that follow the reserve’s holiday schedule, like Bank of America and Wells Fargo, will close their doors.

ATMs will remain open to customers.

The United States Postal Service will not open on June 16. Additionally, mail carriers will not deliver residential or business mail that day. However, Priority Mail Express delivery is offered 365 days a year in many locations.

United Parcel Service will offer pickup and delivery services on June 16. According to its website, UPS stores will remain open.

Customers can enjoy FedEx Wednesday services including FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Ground Economy, FedEx Custom Critical, FedEx Freight, FedEx Trade Networks, FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Office.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will remain open.

Since the Stock Exchange recognizes June 16 as a public holiday, it will close its doors at the same time as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq.

Although national retailers like Target and Best Buy recognize Juneteenth as a holiday, they will remain open for business.

Walmart stores across the country will operate as normal.

All METRO services will operate according to usual weekday schedules on June 19. All METRO HOV/HOT lanes will remain open and the customer service call center will close at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.

METRO RideStores and Lost & Found will not open on June 16 with METROLift reservations. Officials encourage customers to call the reservation line at 713-225-6716 on Tuesday, June 18 to plan trips on June 19 and 20.
