Man killed in cross-border shelling in Belgorod, Russia

One man was killed and another person was injured in an attack in Russia’s southwestern Belgorod region, according to local authorities said Wednesday.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Air defense systems shot down six Ukrainian missiles early on Wednesday morning. It said Previously, three Ukrainian drones were shot down over the Belgorod region overnight.

Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said the shooting damaged households, vehicles and a power line in the village of Belenkoye, 15 kilometers north of Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region.

“To our great regret, one civilian was killed – one man suffered multiple shrapnel wounds incompatible with life,” Gladkov wrote on Telegram, adding that another man was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Belgorod has been a regular target of Ukrainian drone and missile attacks.

Gladkow said last month that there were 120 civilians killed and more than 650 others have been wounded in Belgorod since the war began.
