New York Liberty continues dream streak in Atlanta

The New York Liberty once again saved the best for last.

Another fantastic fourth set the stage for the Liberty’s fifth straight victory, as a dominant final period created a 78-61 final against the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Arena in College Park. Although Atlanta withstood several one-sided runs in New York, the Liberty (9-2, 3-0 in the Commissioner’s Cup) ultimately prevailed with a 23-13 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Although things were a little tougher offensively than usual, the Liberty turned in their best 11-game start in franchise history with four women in double figures. Breanna Stewart had another double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Betnijah Laney-Hamilton had 15 in a comeback in Atlanta. Sabrina Ionescu was mostly held in check from the court, but she had a pair of 10s with five assists and rebounds each. With just one three-pointer, Ionescu has now made at least one of 36 in a row, breaking Shameka Christon’s Liberty franchise record.

The Liberty will face their biggest challenge of the season Saturday afternoon, as they travel to Uncasville to take on the undefeated Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena (1 p.m. ET, ABC).
