A “dangerous” pedophile who raped one girl and sexually abused another during a seven-year campaign of abuse has been jailed.

34-year-old Malcolm Lamont targeted his victims between the ages of two and twelve.

He introduced the teenagers to pornography and then sexually abused them, including raping the older girl.

Judge Fiona Tait said the sexual assaults were of “significant seriousness” and had a “significant impact” on the victims.

Lamont’s abuse occurred between 2008 and 2015 in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

Lamont, formerly of Denny in Falkirk, was found guilty of six charges following a trial at the Supreme Court in Livingston in March.

At the Supreme Court in Edinburgh On Tuesday he was sentenced to seven years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Judge Tait said: “Due to the seriousness of the crimes, a custodial sentence is the only appropriate decision in your case.”

Lamont “vulnerable”

Defense lawyer Iain Smith said his client continued to deny committing the offenses and had never been to prison until he was remanded in custody at the end of his trial.

He said Lamont reported he had a difficult family background and was considered “at risk.”

It emerged Lamont had no previous convictions for sexual offenses but had been fined in the past for two counts of assaulting a child.

The judge acknowledged Lamont’s “relative youth” at the start of his sexual offending, as well as his “difficult upbringing and health problems.”

However, she added: “Nevertheless, these sexual offenses are of considerable seriousness.”

“They will have had a significant influence on the complainants. The complainants deserve praise for the courage with which they testified.”
