The “Errors” Tour – Orange County Register

The “Errors” Tour – Orange County Register

Swifties will be on high alert when The Hanging returns to Knott’s Scary Farm, with Taylor Swift expected to play a key role in the show, which takes a dig at pop culture and features heavy doses of cheesy comedy, senseless bloodshed, and mindless murder.

Knott’s Scary Farm 2024 features 10 haunted mazes, five scary zones, and four live shows on select nights from September 19 to November 2 at Buena Park theme park.

The comedy and stunt show “The Hanging: The Errors Tour” will be performed three times per night at the Wagon Camp Theater during Knott’s Scary Farm.

“This is the show that you remember with all of its satire, parody and pop culture references,” said Jeff Tucker, writer of Knott’s Berry Farm and director of this year’s edition of “The Hanging.” “We definitely had a lot of big events, big characters, big movies and big TV shows to compete with this year.”

The title of the parody and satire show “The Errors Tour” is a reference to Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour.

The pop superstar – or at least a celebrity impersonator – will appear in some form during “The Errors Tour”.

“Anyone who’s popular will be skewered on the show,” Tucker said during an online video interview. “There will be some Taylor Swift references, but hopefully not enough to make the Swifties fall all over us. But enough to make them want to buy the T-shirt.”

Will Taylor Swift end up on the gallows for her sins against pop culture?

Scary Farmers will find out when the first show premieres on September 19th at the Wagon Camp Theater.

In this year’s show, the Executioner and the Lawman return triumphantly from a well-deserved Hawaiian vacation, only to find that they have been replaced by two new characters who possess artificial intelligence.

“The show has been taken over by a new supervisor who is using AI to create a better show,” Tucker said. “You will definitely recognize the new supervisor.”

The Hanging returned to Knott’s Scary Farm in 2023 after a four-year absence – a hiatus that was partly self-imposed and caused by the pandemic. Last year’s show had a lot to do – catching up on recent years in pop culture and celebrating Scary Farm’s 50th anniversary.

“This year we can start with a fresh, new program,” said Tucker. “The Hangman and the Lawmen was a huge success last year. They hung a Karen and declared that comedy was safe again.”

The pool of parodies is full this year, as Deadpool, Wolverine, Beetlejuice and the Ghostbusters are likely to take a lot of flack in “The Hanging”.

Larry, Knott’s security guard, will be there again to make sure the show runs safe and smoothly.

“He was very popular last year,” Tucker said. “Larry will be there to make sure everything is safe.”

Last year, the first half of the show was heavily comedic, leaving the audience wondering when it would finally start.

“I learned a lot about what the audience expects,” Tucker said. “I definitely learned what the stuntmen and women expect on the show. Last year’s script didn’t have a lot of stunts. We added them in gradually.”

According to Tucker, the pace of comedy and action on this year’s Errors Tour will be more evenly distributed.

“I actually have a color-coded script now that tells me where the dirty jokes are and where the stunts are,” Tucker said. “So I can actually look at it like a diagram and say, ‘Oh, we got through four pages without anyone getting hit on the head. I’ve got to put that in there.'”

Like last year, if you want to see any of The Hanging shows, you’ll need to get in line early. Seats in the Wagon Camp Theater fill up quickly.

“The best seats are in the back,” Tucker said. “You have to sit in the back to experience the full spectacle.”

The first-come, first-served venue, the Wagon Camp Theater, proved to be the perfect setting for the R-rated show, which featured plenty of F-bombs and raunchy comedy.

“You can’t feel insulted walking by,” Tucker said. “If you want to feel insulted, you have to come in. You have to make a commitment to sit down and watch the show.”

Last year, Tucker kept the comedy and action scenes short because he was concerned about the audience’s shorter attention span.

“People absorb media very quickly today – TikTok, YouTube, short films, videos,” Tucker said. “I didn’t know if people would last 30 minutes. They did. No one ever left.”

This year the show will be a little longer and feature more characters and stories.

“We can have what I call breather moments,” Tucker said. “That’s where the show slows down a little, lets you catch your breath, and then goes right back on.”

Disneyland will once again be in the crosshairs – especially after the D23 fan event. And Knott’s will face some of the harshest criticism.

“The funniest thing is when we make fun of ourselves,” Tucker said. “There were no complaints about last year’s show. I was really shocked because I thought we had pushed the boundaries pretty far.”

Three more shows will be added to “The Hanging: The Errors Tour” during Knott’s Scary Farm 2024.

The new video revue “Yours Cruelly Elvira XXperience” will run continuously throughout the evening on event evenings at the Walter Knott Theater.

The circus show “Le Magnifique Carnaval du Grotesque” returns to the Calico Mine Stage, while the magic show “Conjurers” features a rotating cast of magicians in the Bird Cage Theatre.
