Australian woman gang raped by five men in Paris days before the Olympics – reports

It has been reported that the 25-year-old woman was attacked in the French capital on Saturday morning at about 5am.

Local media reports that the victim sought refuge in a kebab shop, located just meters from the Moulin Rouge on the Boulevard de Clinchy in the city’s 18th arrondissement, following the incident.

She was later transferred to Bichat Hospital by paramedics who came to her assistance.

The incident had also been reported on Australian 7News whose reporter Ash Mullany revealed that the woman, according to several French media outlets, “went inside with her dress on back to front and it was reportedly torn,” Mullany said.

“She told police she had been raped by five men. Now, this woman was taken to a local hospital. It was there she underwent a medical examination.

“It’s alleged this happened over the weekend, in the early hours of Saturday morning.”

According to the report, the woman, who had been planning to travel back to Australia, is now remaining in Paris to help police with their investigation.

“A number of officers are now working on this investigation,” the report adds

The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade released a statement to 7NEWS.com.au, saying they were ready to provide consular assistance to the victim.

“The Australian Embassy in Paris is making urgent inquiries with French authorities following reports of an Australian citizen assaulted in Paris,” a spokesman said.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stands ready to provide consular assistance.”

Other reports reveal how the woman told police she was forced to flee into a kebab shop while wearing a ripped dress and with her underwear in her hand after the alleged attack.

She also claimed they had stolen her phone.

After seeking refuge in the Dounia kebab shop on Boulevard de Clichy, near to the iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret theater, the alleged victim was taken to Bichat hospital “disoriented and unable to speak a word of French,” according to other media reports.

The woman had reportedly been in Paris for the Fete de Musique music festival but is staying in the city as the Paris Prosecutor’s Office opened up an investigation into the woman’s claims and began inspecting CCTV in the area.

They said in a statement: “The investigation into the charge of gang rape likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20 has been entrusted to the second judicial police district.”

Alliance Paris Police Union added that investigators will “do everything to quickly identify the individuals and bring them to justice”.

Security is being stepped up in Paris ahead of the Olympics which start on Friday with more than 60,000 police and soldiers, drones, helicopters and a huge increase in AI surveillance.

Fighter jets, AWACS surveillance flights, Reaper surveillance drones and helicopters with high-level snipers on board will patrol the Paris skies in France’s largest deployment of troops since World War Two.

A number of security concerns have been raised in the French capital after ISIS threatened attacks on the Olympics.

The terrorist outfit posted a propaganda poster showing one of its terrorists seemingly flying an “armed drone” to attack the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Officers have already made a number of arrests ahead of the Games with a 26-year-old being hero for allegedly plotting “violent action” while a 16-year-old was also detained for allegedly saying he wanted to “die a martyr”.
