What impact will the mistrial of Karen Read have on the investigations into Michael Proctor, TurtleBoy and others?

What impact will the mistrial of Karen Read have on the investigations into Michael Proctor, TurtleBoy and others?

CANTON – The Karen Read murder trial became Mistrial on Monday, but three other investigations are still ongoing in connection with the case.

State Police Officer Michael Proctor

State police officer Michael Proctor, who led the case, is under internal investigation. Proctor admitted on the witness stand that he inappropriate texts on the subject of reading during his examination.

It is not known whether he was placed on leave because of this specific case, but his conduct may impact whether or not he is called again as a witness in the Read case or other cases in Norfolk County.

Blogger “TurtleBoy”

There is also a case against blogger Aiden Kearney, also known as “Turtle boy.” He advocated for Read’s case and was arrested in October 2023 for witness intimidation.

He is accused of harassing some of the witnesses in the trial and was denied access to the courtroom during their testimony.

Possible federal investigation

There is also a possible federal investigation into the Karen Read case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not confirmed that it is investigating the case or what it is focusing on, but both the prosecution and defense have mentioned it in court.

Legal experts say that if a grand jury is convened to hear the case, it cannot sit for more than 18 months. It’s possible that an investigation will be completed before Read’s new trial begins, which could affect the second trial and the law enforcement agencies involved.
