Jackson native selected by Atlanta Braves in MLB draft

JACKSON, Tenn. — The community came together to celebrate an athlete experiencing major success.

Dalton McIntyre was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the MLB draft.

A Jackson native, McIntyre attended the University of Southern Mississippi. He says his dream has always been to reach the major leagues.

And the teams and coaches throughout his life helped him get to this point. On Wednesday, a celebration was held at Hub City Brewery for this major accomplishment.

“It’s kind of an unreal feeling. You know you can’t really prepare yourself for that feeling. Growing up, you know you’re sitting in the yard and you’re like, ‘I want to play for this team when I grow up. You know you want to make it to the big leagues, you want to at least have the opportunity to do it. And then to be in that situation is a really cool feeling,” McIntyre said.

McIntyre says he’s excited to learn from this new level of leadership as he continues to grow in the game.
