Two men arrested in connection with robbery investigation in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri (KFVS) – Two men from Jackson, Missouri have been arrested in connection with the investigation of a robbery in Cape Girardeau.

According to Cape Girardeau Police, officers were called to the 3400 block of William Street around 12:30 a.m. on July 12 for a report of a suspicious person.

The caller allegedly told police that a white man was lying on the ground in front of a store holding what looked like a toy gun.

When officers arrived, they saw the man, later identified as 19-year-old Scott Taylor II of Jackson, with a ski mask on his head and an AK-47-style rifle slung across his arm.

According to police, Taylor appeared to be unconscious, so officers handcuffed him and took away his gun, which was loaded with thirty rounds of ammunition. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of an apparent overdose.

The caller also told police that a car had left the area when officers arrived and that he believed the vehicle was associated with Taylor.

Through further investigation, officers determined the vehicle was registered to Taylor and quickly located it in the 100 block of Siemers Drive. It was driven by 19-year-old Jude Jaco, also of Jackson.

Officers made contact with Jaco and learned that he may have been intoxicated. When they looked through the window, they also saw a Glock 23 semi-automatic pistol in the driver’s side floorboard.

Officers seized the firearm, which was loaded with eleven rounds of ammunition, as well as several cartridges and several magazines for both the AK-47 rifle and the Glock pistol.

Taylor and Jaco were both taken into custody.

Taylor was formally charged with first-degree robbery (a class B felony), armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon (a class B felony), and fourth-degree assault (a class A misdemeanor). He is being held without bail.

Jaco was also formally charged with first-degree robbery (a class B felony), armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon (a class B felony), and driving under the influence (a class B misdemeanor). He is being held without bail.

The investigation is still ongoing.
