Pittsburgh International Airport is issuing a travel advisory due to long security lines. Here’s what you need to know.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh International Airport has issued a travel advisory advising passengers with early morning flights to arrive up to three hours early due to record-breaking crowds and long lines.

In a travel advisory posted on social media Monday afternoon, the airport advised passengers with flights between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. to arrive 2.5 to 3 hours early to get through security.

“We recognize that there are longer than usual lines at TSA security checkpoints nationwide during this busy summer travel season. We are working with TSA to streamline security checkpoints at Pittsburgh International Airport as much as possible,” an airport spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesman said the airport is experiencing record-breaking travel traffic this summer and that the land terminal is “busier than ever” due to numerous new routes.

The Transportation Security Administration set a record by screening nearly 3 million travelers on Sunday. Seven of the busiest travel days ever occurred in the past 30 days, the TSA says, and it expects 32 million additional travelers traveling on Independence Day from June 27 to July 8.

“We expect this summer to be our busiest summer ever, and summer travel typically peaks during the Independence Day holiday,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a press release.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day for travelers, as the TSA expects to screen more than 3 million people. The agency says it is staffed enough to maintain the standard wait time of 30 minutes or less, with wait times in the TSA PreCheck lanes even shorter.
