Surf City police investigate shooting with two victims

Two people were shot in a residential building in Surf City early Sunday morning.

The Surf City Police Department responded to a 911 call at 12:05 a.m. regarding “shots fired” coming from a residence in the 1500 block of Easy Street.

According to a press release from the City of Surf City, a male suspect fired a firearm inside the home and later at the intersection of Pender Avenue and North Topsail Drive.

The incident occurred after an argument between several people in the apartment. According to the press release, a female victim was hit in the leg and a male victim was hit in the hand.

Both victims were taken to hospital by emergency services for medical treatment.

In addition to the Surf City Police Department, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, the Topsail Beach Police Department, and the Pender Fire and EMS Department also assisted in responding to the incident.

According to the press release, police have identified the suspect involved in the shooting and issued arrest warrants. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but it is an isolated incident and there is currently no immediate threat to the public.
