Man arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident in Barnet

NEWPORT – A Connecticut man was arrested June 15 after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that caused property damage in Barnet.

State police were called to 442 US RT 5 at 2:36 p.m. after a vehicle left the roadway, caused property damage and fled the scene.

The vehicle, a 2013 Mazda 3, was later found disabled on I91 near mile marker 131 northbound in St. Johnsbury.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Adams of Portland, Connecticut, was taken into custody and booked at the State Police Barracks.

The victims of the incident were identified as the owners of the damaged property, Angie Nelson, 48, and James Kendall, 58, both residents of Barnet, VT.

Adams was released with a summons to appear in the Criminal Division of Caledonia County Superior Court on August 5.
