Remember Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Astros recalled outfielder Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday to replace right fielder Kyle Tucker on their active roster.

Tucker was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday because of a right shin contusion he suffered when fouling a ball on his leg Monday against the Cardinals.

Loperfido, who made his major league debut on April 30, joins the Astros for a second stint this season. He posted a .333/.381/.436 slash line in 14 games before being re-signed to Triple-A on May 27, when the Astros recalled José Abreu from the minors. Loperfido was 9-for-43 in nine games after returning to Triple-A.

It remains to be seen how the Astros will use Loperfido and manage right field in Tucker’s absence. Their right-handed options include right-handed hitters Chas McCormick and Mauricio Dubón and left-handed bats Loperfido and Trey Cabbage.

Tucker’s move to the IL is retroactive to June 4, making him eligible to return June 14 when the Astros open a three-game series against the Tigers in Houston.
