BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Chris Brown will be the Bills’ full-time radio commentator on WGR 550 moving forward, the team announced Tuesday.

Brown has been an interim play-by-play announcer since January 2023, calling 18 regular-season games and four playoff games during that span. He was joined by analyst Eric Wood and field reporter Sal Capaccio throughout the season.

He officially replaces John Murphy, who took over in 2003. Murphy suffered a stroke in January 2023 and has been recovering since. He officially resigned from his position in May. Murphy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019.

“This decision made perfect sense for the Bills and Audacy,” Bills COO Pete Guelli said in a statement. “Chris has done this job at an extremely high level for parts of the last two seasons with Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio. He has a strong institutional knowledge of our team while understanding the pulse of our fan base. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch for the legends this job has produced in Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Brown is the third full-time commentator in team history. In addition to his role as a commentator, he hosts the weekly show One Bills Live on WGR 550.

The Bills will open the preseason at home against the Chicago Bears on August 10. The regular-season opener will be on September 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.
