Unexpected incident on Iranian military ship

THERAN – The Iranian Navy’s public relations department has announced in an urgent report that the frigate Sahand, which had been sent to one of the shipyards in Bandar Abbas for repairs, was involved in a shipping accident.

According to Fars News, the press office of the Army’s First Naval Region announced that the frigate Sahand lost its balance during repair work in the dock due to water leaks in the tanks. Fortunately, the frigate was able to quickly regain its balance due to the shallow water depth of the shore. People who sustained minor injuries in this accident were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Sahand is the third Surfing-class frigate built and designed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy. The frigate was unveiled in September 2012 and launched in December 2018. It is named after the Sahand-class frigate Alvand, which was deployed in military operations in the Persian Gulf with the U.S. Navy fleet in 1988 and sank during the operation. Sahand is now in service with the Naval Defense Industries of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.
