NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — A North Myrtle Beach police officer is credited with saving possibly “hundreds of lives” after recovering a vehicle stolen in Texas.

Field Training Ofc. Matt Harden noticed a U-Haul parked at the Everything Under the Sun flea market early Tuesday morning. The U-Haul had backed up to a trailer with a vehicle on it.

Police later determined that the U-Haul had been stolen in Texas and had a fake West Virginia license plate.

An unnamed person was arrested. During an inventory of the U-Haul truck, police seized 111 grams of methamphetamine, a weapon and several items used to steal and break into vehicles.

“This is just another example of the hard and diligent work he does every shift. His actions last night undoubtedly prevented the theft and break-in of several vehicles and potentially saved lives by getting a dangerous drug and firearm off the street,” the department said on its Facebook page.
