Charlotte reaches 90 degrees, air quality warning issued

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Charlotte officially hit 90 degrees on Thursday! That’s almost a month later than the first 90-degree day we usually have. It’s going to get even hotter as the weekend approaches, with highs expected to be between 90 and 150 degrees on Friday and Saturday.

It’s that time of year when we also look for potential air quality issues in a hot and stagnant air mass… and it starts Friday. An air quality warning will be in effect from late morning to early evening. Young children, older active adults and people with respiratory problems are urged to limit their time outdoors.

What about the chance of rain? It will remain low throughout the weekend. A few isolated showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out on Friday and Sunday, Father’s Day.

Tonight: A few clouds. Low 67.

Friday: Partly cloudy and hot! High 93.
