Districts announced Sunday that they would begin announcing plans for returning students to classrooms.

HOUSTON — Several school districts canceled classes Friday after a powerful and deadly storm passed through the Houston area Thursday. Several schools were damaged and lost power. Crews worked throughout the weekend to assess the damage and restore power. We are keeping an eye on where districts stand regarding the return of students on Monday.

Houston ISD

At a news conference Saturday, HISD Superintendent Mike Miles said four elementary schools in the district suffered significant damage and dozens were without power. As of 6 p.m., 77 campuses were without power. They said their goal is to have all students back Monday. They said once power is restored to campuses, district crews will check air conditioning, water and nutrition services.

The district said that at noon Sunday it would begin announcing which campuses would resume classes.

Cy Fair ISD

Cy Fair rates its campuses. They said widespread power outages persisted. They will communicate the district’s plans on their website and social media on Sunday.

ISD Spring Branch

As of Saturday afternoon, Spring Branch said about 80 percent of campuses did not have power. They said power, along with other factors, would determine the opening date. These factors include air conditioning, plumbing, telephone systems, technology and catering.

The district said it will communicate its decision by 6 p.m. Sunday on its website, social media and via email/text message.

As other districts provide updates, we will add them here.

As schools make their decisions, we will send alerts. Download the KHOU 11 app to receive them.
