Infill: Citywide sites seek affordable housing

The City of Buffalo has identified 46 vacant properties where 47 affordable single-family homes could be built. The sites are to be sold to Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corp. (BENLIC) which will supervise the construction and sale of the residences. Homes will be subject to income restrictions for buyers, with income levels at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level, or $93,600 for a family of four.

Erie County and the city are partnering on the project using a total of $23.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds to subsidize the homes. Sites are located in the Old First Ward, Hamlin Park, Black Rock, Lower West Side and elsewhere:

Five additional homes will be built in Cheektowaga. BENLIC is currently working on house plans and is committed to designing houses suitable for the selected neighborhoods.
