The Italian Ministry of Health has declared the highest level of red alert for Rome on Tuesday and Wednesday as the country is hit by an intense heatwave in the last days of July.

In addition to Rome, the following cities are affected by the level 3 heat warning for Tuesday, July 30: Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Perugia, Rieti and Turin.

For most of these cities, the red alert level will remain in effect on Wednesday, July 31, with the exception of Naples and Palermo, as well as Viterbo.

The red Bollino indicates emergency situations where there is a risk of adverse effects on the elderly, sick or very young, as well as on healthy and active people.

Rome’s guidelines for dealing with the heat include staying indoors between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., drinking at least 1.5 liters of water a day, avoiding sodas, alcohol and coffee, eating light meals, vegetables and fruit, wearing light clothing and never leaving children or animals in the car.

The city also encourages residents and tourists to download the Waidy Wow app, which will track the next nasoni Drinking fountains around the capital.

In Italy, there is a telephone helpline number 1500, active from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., which offers advice on how to cope with the heat and information on available social and health services.

Current information on the heat wave can be found on the Italian Ministry of Health website.
