13-year-old raped and blackmailed by Insta-boyfriend; two detained

Gwalior: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a moving car in Gwalior district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh by a man she was friends with on social media while another person shot a video of the act, police said on Saturday.

An official said police had arrested two of three accused in connection with the incident.

Although the incident occurred on June 1 within the premises of Mohna police station, a complaint was filed on Thursday, he said.

The girl, a Class 9 student, befriended one of the accused on Instagram and was introduced to another man. The two chatted with her on social media, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Niranjan Sharma told reporters.

On June 1, the two men and another accused met the girl in her village and forced her to go for a ride with them, he said.

According to the prosecution, one of the defendants raped her and another filmed a video of the act while her accomplice was driving the car, the official said.

Later, the defendant called the girl several times to meet and threatened to distribute the video, he said.

When the girl did not give in to their threats, the video was shared and her family learned about the attack, the official said.

Two men have been arrested and a manhunt for the third defendant involved in the crime is underway, he said.

The cellphone and car used in the crime were confiscated, the official said.
