Heat alerts in place for Houston Pride parade Saturday

Tonight’s forecast:

Tonight will be mild and humid, with temperatures struggling to drop. Overnight lows will only dip to around 80 degrees.

Forecast for Saturday:

Saturday will be hot and humid with maximum temperatures around 32°C and a heat index ranging from 41°C to 43°C. Houston and most of Southeast Texas are under a heat alert from noon to 7 p.m. Additional thunderstorms may develop late this afternoon and evening. If you’re heading to Pride on Saturday, make sure you drink plenty of water.

In the footsteps of the tropics:

The Caribbean storm area remains disorganized but the risk of becoming a tropical storm or depression has increased slightly. This is about combating dry air and the plentiful land in front of it that hinders tropical development. It has a 30% chance of developing this weekend. No impact is expected on Southeast Texas. The high pressure area over Texas prevents us from experiencing any effects.

Of greater concern is the eastern Atlantic tropical system about 1,400 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. This will become our first hurricane of the year. This storm is moving westward at 15 to 20 mph. It will approach the Windward Islands by the end of the weekend.

This wave will move into the Caribbean Sea by the middle of next week. While it is too early to tell what impacts it might have on the Gulf Coast, it is almost certain to bring elevated risks of rip currents for the Fourth of July weekend.
