Union leaders and workers vote to approve new deal

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Members of Teamsters Local 264 are back to work after voting to approve new four-year agreements with Tops.

“The ratified agreement provides industry-leading terms that exceed those agreed to in the past, while ensuring that our customers will continue to receive the service, selection and value they have come to expect from Tops Markets,” Tops said in a statement. statement.

This comes after a strike began Friday and a tentative agreement between Tops and Teamsters Local 264 was reached two days later.

Tops’ previous employee contract, which covered approximately 550 workers in the maintenance, sanitation, warehouse and transportation sectors, expired on May 31. Earlier that month, workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.

The union announced its new agreement with Tops on Sunday afternoon as tentative, saying it provides employees “financial security and benefits protection without any concessions.” Tops confirmed the deal was done Monday afternoon following a vote held earlier in the day.

“I would like to emphasize that this agreement benefits from the full recommendation of our bargaining committee, who worked tirelessly to obtain the best possible outcome for our members,” said Local 264 President Brian Dickman before the vote.
