Delafield police rescue teen from I-94 overpass Friday night |  Waukesha Co. News

DELAFIELD – Delafield City Police responded to a report of a suicidal juvenile on the I-94 overpass at Genesee Street Friday night, according to a news release from Delafield Police.

At 10:53 p.m., officers found a person standing on the guardrail at the edge of the bridge. Officers managed to convince the person to move away from the edge of the bridge and continue talking, the release said.

When the person was facing away from the edge, the officers took the opportunity to secure them unharmed. The person was provided with crisis services, the statement said.

As a result, westbound I-94 and the Genesse Street overpass were briefly closed.

“Our thoughts are with the individual and their family as they navigate these difficult times. We would like to recognize the work of our dedicated officers who acted with compassion and bravery during this incident,” the release said.

Assisting were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR, Village of Summit, Village of Chenequa and Lake County Fire and Rescue.
